Savannah has been excited for several days about going to see Santa Clause and have her picture taken. She often looks at the picture of her and him from last year and it always puts a smile on her face. I had been telling Savannah that this year, Hudson would sit on Santa's lap with her and she was excited about that too.
We planned to go visit the same "Santa" that we have for the past two years. Of course the first year we went, Savannah was only six months old, so she wasn't really aware of who was holding her. Last year, when she was 1.5 years old, she was a little hesitant, but nothing terrible. So I thought this year, especially since Hudson would be sitting with her, that she would at least do "okay". Boy was I wrong!
The place we go to is so convenient because you just sign in online {using your phone number} on the day you want to go. It tells you immediately how many people are "in line" ahead of you and your approximate wait time. For us, there were 158 people in line ahead of us, giving us a wait time of approximately 2.5 hours. Some of you may think this is crazy, but it's actually great! Since the place is about 30 minutes away, both kids got to take a nap and then we got ready to go when they woke up.
During that 2.5 hour wait time, the system sends a text every 30-45 minutes to update you on the number of people in line ahead of you and what your new wait time is. If you end up needing more time, you could text back the letter "M" and they would bump you back about 10 minutes in the line. Need more than 10 minutes? Just text the letter "M" followed by a number for the number of extra minutes you would need.
Once we made our way through the crazy weekend-before-Christmas traffic, and got to where Santa was, we gave the lady at the front of the store our phone number and she said we only had about a 5 minute wait before it would be our turn. How perfect is that?!
When we got in the line to see Santa, there were 2 other sets of brothers and sisters in front of us. I was holding Savannah as she watched these other children take their turns sitting on Santa's lap for pictures. She acted nervous, but still not crying, so I thought we would be good.
Nope.
When it was our turn and I started to walk her over to Santa, her legs wrapped as tight as possible around my waist and she was bear-hugging me! Caleb sat Hudson on Santa's lap, then helped me peel Savannah off of me to sit her on his lap. She was crying, but Caleb and I walked behind the camera to try to get her to smile. All with no luck. The lady quickly snapped four pictures {trying to get a descent one} and this is the best we got.
And she was perfectly fine once I was holding her again. She even turned to talk to Santa for a minute. That's my silly, shy girl!
